Thomas Hamilton Blanck was an Old West robber and murderer. He was active from 1891 to 1895 in Canada and Washington State, U.S.
==Timeline of crimes==
The first known historical reference to Thomas Hamilton Blanck comes from an 1894 police report. In October, 1894, a Seattle detective named Cudihee arrested a suspect in the killing of a bartender which occurred a few days previously, in which the officer was grazed in the neck when the suspect fired his gun. The suspect gave his name as Tom Blanck and confessed to the following crimes:〔(''Celebrated Criminal Cases of America'' ); Drake, Thomas Samuel; 1910; retrieved October 2015.〕
*January, 1891 in Nelson, British Columbia Blanck, and a partner, robbed a stage coach. They murdered the driver and stole $4500.
*February, 1891 in Kalama, Washington Blanck committed a burglary for which he was arrested, but, subsequently escaped from jail. In Fairhaven, Washington, Blank committed a burglary, was pursued by policeman Peter Brugh, whom Blanck shot twice, and then escaped. 〔(''missing article name'' ); unknown date; History Link; accessed October 2015.〕 ''Note: The wounding of Officer Brugh occurred in October, 1890''
*August 18, 1894, in Helena, Montana Blanck robbed several people in the barroom of the Broadwater Hotel.
*September, 1894, in Meaderville, Montana Blanck shot and killed a bartender named Steve Gross. Blanck also claimed to have killed a deputy sheriff that was pursuing him.〔 On April 10, 1894, Blanck killed officer John Flynn in Helena, Montana. That same month Blanck had also killed Northern Pacific agent William Ogle in Belgrade, Montana. In 1890 Blanck had shot and killed a friend in a poker game in Weiser, Idaho]〔
*September 20, 1894 in a railroad crossing called Meeker Station near Puyallup, Washington Constable William Jeffery came across two men running from a boxcar; one of the suspects dropped a bundle. When the officer investigated the bundle and found a .45 Colt pistol inside it, the two men reappeared. When the officer asked one of them if he could identify the pistol, the man said yes and claimed his initials were on it. While the office checked the gun for marks, the man shot and killed the officer with a hidden pistol. The two suspects robbed a farmer of his horse and wagon and fled; a posse was formed
*September 21, 1894, Deputy Sheriff Harry Moore and John Ball investigated a suspicious man near McMillian, Washington; the officer ordered the stranger to halt. The stranger shot and wounded Moore in the breast and escaped.
*September 22, 1894, in South Prairie, Washington Frank Murphy, age 16, was arrested after buying a large amount of provisions because he fit the description of the accomplice of the man who had killed Officer Jeffrey. After being arrested, he admitted he had been with "Hamilton" but claimed that they had parted company.
*October 3, 1894, in Seattle, Washington Blanck attempted to rob the "Mug Saloon" and killed the bartender, Charles Birdwell.〔( The Seattle Post-Intelligencer., October 05, 1894, Page 8, Image 8 )〕
It was a few days after the Birdwell killing that Cudihee arrested Blanck.
